Securing repeat business is a Delusion

ME          "What’s it like in reality?"
YOU        "It’s great."
ME           "So there’s no God?"
YOU      " Nope."
ME.         "That’s exactly what a delusional person would say."

FACT: Delusion is fuelled by cowardly bystanders hoping to SECURE approval through lies. Businesses are so desperate to SECURE repeat business, they have entitled the user to their opinions. Designers are remote daycare workers coddling independent-babies with credit cards.

Not only that, users don’t read. Instead they make ignorant assumptions about content which spells out in plain text the solution they couldn’t be bothered to read.  They submit poor ratings or call customer support to give feedback so dramatically intended to chastise those responsible for their poor experience.  Any attempt to call out their hypocrisy runs the risk of the case escalating to your manager.

I know how to turn the tide on entitled users. Fuck’em. Hear me out, again I’m an entitled customer (which YOU helped create) so if you want to SECURE my repeat business you have to listen to me. Just to be clear I’m not a fan of designers either; I should know I am one.

Delusion is fuelled by cowardly bystanders hoping to SECURE approval through lies. Delusion is an epidemic. Designers are deluded because they think their efforts are on par with charity work. Why? Hyperextended empathy. Users are deluded because they think their efforts are on par with design work. Why? They are experts on what they like. That's THEIR credentials. Impressive isn't it...

Design is not charity and users are not designers. Both groups fuel each other hoping to SECURE each other's approval through lies. What lies? Design is God.  Whoa!  Flake-alert.  Am I Right?  The higher delusion rises, the grander the perspective you observe upon reality below (i.e. God).  Innovation is the escape from the peace of familiarity.  Reality is familiar albeit painfully so, which incentivizes us to inflate our delusion through each others lies.  This is why designers and users escape reality through innovation.

Think of this as the charity of your conscience which I know cannot be monetized; believe me I’ve tried.  Be honest.  Users are forthright with their feedback but they are not honest.  Designers are forthright with their allegiance to the user, but they are not honest.  Why?  The ultimate delusion is SECURING approval.  It’s based on a lie.  What lie?  The customer is always right.  In closing, the user can go fuck itself.
